What Is Tramadol?

Tramadol is a prescription pain killer that is an opioid. For many years, Tramadol was a less risky opioid pain reliever to prescribe to chronic pain sufferers. It was considered safer to prescribe to patients with a low tolerance to pain medications, such as children, or for those patients who were at risk for developing an addiction.
Tramadol was not scheduled as a narcotic by the DEA until 2014. Since then, it is now a schedule IV narcotic in the same class as benzodiazepines such as Xanax. Still, Tramadol cannot be compared to other prescription painkillers such as oxycontin or Vicodin because it does not bind as tightly to the opioid receptors as would morphine.

Signs Of Tramadol Addiction

Since Tramadol is an opioid drug, there will be similarities in how one behaves when they are addicted to Tramadol that can be compared to the behaviors other opioid addictions cause. Persons addicted to Tramadol are identified as having Opioid Use Disorder, also known as addiction to opiates like heroin, fentanyl, oxycontin, Vicodin, etc. The most prominent sign of addiction for people with opioid use disorder is a noticeable change in behavior. Many opiate-addicted people lose their jobs, begin shoplifting, lying to friends and family to get money, or make excuses for why they have no money. They will isolate themselves from others and resist doing the activities they once enjoyed.
Another behavior change is a difference in their appearance and daily routines. Sleeping during the day, appearing sleepy, not showering, cleaning the home, forgetting urgent appointments, or misplacing house keys or cell phones are common signs. Emotionally, a person addicted to Tramadol or other opiates will also be agitated easily, overly dramatic, and may seem depressed. Other symptoms of addiction to Tramadol include the following:

Tramadol Withdrawal Symptoms

The withdrawal symptoms that Tramadol causes differ slightly from other opioid withdrawal symptoms. Tramadol does not bind to the opioid receptors in the brain as strongly as morphine or other potent opiates. It also shares similarities with the antidepressant medication Effexor as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Therefore, Tramadol detox symptoms will include other symptoms not typical of opioid withdrawal.
The atypical Tramadol withdrawal symptoms that can occur:

Hallucinations

Paranoia

Extreme anxiety

Panic attacks

Confusion

Sensory experiences such as numbness and tingling in one or more extremities

The typical Tramadol withdrawal symptoms include flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, rapid pulse, increased blood pressure, sweating and cold chills, muscle aches and body pains, and intense cravings for Tramadol. Once a person does experience Tramadol detox symptoms, they will need medical care. Attempting to quit Tramadol cold turkey without medications and medical supervision is simply too tricky. Detoxification from opioids is incredibly challenging, and most people cannot endure the detox symptoms and will return to using them.

Tramadol Addiction Treatment Program

Florida Helps Florida Tramadol detox centers provide safe and effective medications to reverse Tramadol withdrawal symptoms. All clients are assessed by medical doctors and psychiatric staff specializing in opioid and Tramadol addiction. Sometimes, our clients are given a taper protocol to decrease their Tramadol levels gradually.
Depending on the individual’s history of use, and other health diagnoses, their Tramadol detox medications may rely on buprenorphine or methadone. As part of our Tramadol detox program, we provide one-on-one counseling, small group counseling, and outdoor recreation activities for clients in detox. All clients can rest and sleep until they feel physically stronger.
Once someone is stabilized physically, we provide an individualized treatment plan. A personalized treatment plan is tailored to their individual needs. It maps out exactly what programs and types of therapy they need to help them remain clean and sober. Check out our programs and our Tramadol Rehab Center in Florida.
